We’ve been lucky enough to eat at some top spots around the world (Central in Lima, Disfrutar in Barcelona), and this was genuinely one of the best experiences we’ve ever had.
Erabu, the owner and sommelier, was an awesome host. His wine pairings were spot-on, and his Google Translate explanations were perfect. He shared about his experience traveling to different wine regions around the world. You can tell he loves what he does.
Masaki, the chef, put so much care into every dish. The food was the perfect amount, everything tasted incredible, and you could feel the passion behind it all. The vibe of the place was great too—relaxed, welcoming, and the staff was super attentive without being over the top.
Also, please ask about their plates/china - they source antiques and some are hundreds of years old:)
In a city full of amazing restaurants, this ended up being our favorite. We would 100% recommend it. -

Highlights included the snow crab and sea urchin appetizer, the duck meatball with matsutake mushroom broth, perfectly seared bonito, and the grilled wagyu beef with grape sauce. In our personal opinion, every dish balanced texture, temperature, and flavor in perfect rhythm.
The wine pairing was with thought curated, each pour complementing the dishes without overpowering them, moving seamlessly from a crisp Champagne Castelnau Brut to the nuanced Japanese Koshu and onward to elegant reds that elevated the later courses. It was clear that a lot of thought and passion went into every selection.
Service was heartfelt, attentive, and genuinely warm, with the team explaining every dish and wine pairing in detail and taking the time to translate everything into our native language. The pacing was flawless, the evening passed far too quickly, leaving us with a lasting sense of calm satisfaction. We felt very welcomed.
For us, MIKURI was not just a dinner, it was a dialogue between Japanese tradition and global refinement, guided by an exceptionally talented team. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an intimate, special dining experience in Kyoto. -

What surprised me was the pairing of the sashimi. The sea bream was paired with white wine, while the wild striped jack was paired with red wine. Even though the red wine was Pinot Noir, it paired perfectly with the striped jack! Who knew such a combination existed? For meat, we had Japanese-style cutlet with a sauce containing sansho pepper or mustard. It was a perfect match with red wine, so much so that we had to have a second glass. We tried a variety of drinks, but each glass was just the right amount to finish by the time the meal was finished, so we got just the right amount to get drunk.
